Your wedding day is a whirlwind of emotions, joy, and celebration. As a photographer, it’s my job to freeze those moments in time, preserving the magic for you to cherish forever. From the beginning of the day to the moment you say “I do” each moment tells a unique story of love and commitment. Here are the 10 must-have wedding photos you won’t want to miss capturing:

  1. The First Look: Whether it's a private moment between the couple or a grand reveal, capturing the raw emotion of seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day is priceless. If doing a first look isn’t up your alley, I also suggest considering doing a first look with your dad, siblings, and/or bridesmaids.
  2. Family Portraits: Family plays a significant role in any wedding. Make sure you sit down and write a list of all the family shots you want to be captured (i.e., bride with mom, bride with mom and dad, bride with grandparents, bride's side of the family, etc.) Make sure you give this list to your photographer, and don’t be afraid to reach out to your photographer to help you create this list, they can help you go over everything and make sure you are not forgetting anything!
  3. Bridal Party: Whether it's a playful pose or a candid moment of laughter, capturing the bond between the bride, groom, and the people they chose to stand up next to them adds a touch of personality to your wedding album. Make sure to get individual shots with each bridesmaid/groomsmen alongside the fun group photos.
  4. Details, Details, Details: From the intricate lace on the bride's dress to her bouquet of flowers, don’t forget to capture the small details that make your wedding day uniquely yours. Make sure to provide your photographer with any props you want detailed photos of. Such as invitations/save-the-date cards, wedding rings, shoes, personal artifacts that hold sentimental value, jewelry, etc.
  5. The Kiss: The iconic moment when you seal your vows with a kiss is a must-have shot (I don’t know many photographers who wouldn’t capture this moment.) It symbolizes the beginning of your journey together as a married couple
  6. Couple Portraits: Don’t forget to schedule some time for the two of you to relax and enjoy the first moments of being a married couple. Make sure to look on Instagram, Pinterest, or your photographer's portfolio for inspiration, and let them know of any must-have poses or shots. Pro Tip: If you do a first look, you can save time by taking your portraits before the ceremony!
  7. The Reception Entrance: The grand entrance into the reception sets the tone for the evening's festivities. Capture the excitement and joy as the newlyweds are welcomed by their guests.
  8. First Dance: The first dance as a married couple is a moment of pure romance. Whether it's a choreographed routine or a simple sway, this is a moment you’ll want to remember forever.
  9. The Farewell: As the night comes to a close, capture the final moments of your wedding day as you bid farewell to your guests. Whether it's a sparkler send-off or a quiet moment alone, it marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new adventure together. Pro Tip: Schedule a “fake” send-off in your timeline where your photographer can capture that special moment, and then you can still party the night away!

These are just a few must-have wedding photos that will help you relive the magic of your special day for years to come. Remember, it’s not just about capturing images but about capturing the emotions, love, and memories that will last a lifetime.
